What this world needs

We've come to a crutial part of human history. The moment that will decide it all. We're faced with two effective choices:
  1. Stop growth and keep the planet.
  2. Continue growth and destroy the planet.
That is the black and white choice that stands before us, and yet we are blind. The best question that follows this choice is what is blinding us? Then I will tell you that it's the culture that we're living in. The culture of expasion, growth, competition and egoism, in short, American culture.

Why do we so envy the Americans, even now, when their popularity is the lowest in recent history? It is because we like to see opertunities rather than limitations, and we're more prone to envy than to apply reason. If we were to ask a simple question: what's the price Americans have to pay to live like they do? Then perhaps we would think twice about that envy.

I can give you that answer, without hesitation: fear. They are a fear driven society without parallell in the western world. Fear of having their choices reduced, fear of not having sucess, fear of not being superior.

How do I know this? Well, it's easy: they're the country with the biggest precentile of religious people in the western world. And religion is first and foremost an escape from reality. It's a way to avoid the realities of this world by playing down it's importance, and focusing on something that's not of this world. It's a childs game, pure and simple. A way to avoid the concequences by selecting what you want too see and what not too see. But then there's the pitfall. The ironic pitfall of organised religion: even more fear.

And as we have already established, what we don't really need is more fear. So, what's the cure then? What's the pill that'll cure us all from this self destrucive culture that american consumerism, capitalism and organized religion is? Again, it's a simple one, so simple in fact that I'm getting a tear in my eye just thinking about it: knowledge. Some would say education instead, but I can't really agree to that, because your upbringing, experiences and the culture you grow up in also have significant roles to play. No, knowledge is key.

People need to face the truth. People need to know the facts. They need to know that their lives have to change or it will change of it's own accord, and then they'll have much less control than if they do it themselves.

Where to start:
Life series by David Attenbourough.
Buy the entire series if you can afford it or download it if you can't. It will show you what you should be fighting for - what we all should be fighting for.

Humankind is now the only species that's prolificating without any control mecanism. We're like an allconsuming plague without a cure. A plague that won't stop untill it destroys everything around it and then it self, if we ourselves don't do something about it.

My blog is up and crawling!

Hey there you! Yeah, you who're reading this text! This is my new personal blog, and it's my first one as well. I hope to actually be able to write down a couple of things in the coming weeks, but I can't promise anything.

Some tags that I suspect will be popping up rutinely: politics, religion, atheism and reason mainly.

I'm also looking into reworking the webdesign, we'll see if I'll bother to put down some work on it.

Stay tuned!
And by that I mean that you can click on that rss button.
